New vista..no one has asked me that question before..but I suppose it's because I have always had a business card for whatever I was doing at that time. Recently I was asked that question and my response, even surprised me..but as I re-read it decided ..yes, that's where I am ..Free and Able. Healthy and rich in true friends going back a long, long time. Blessed with wonderful new friends that keep me constantly challenging my beliefs, thought patterns and "established ways of doing things."
Still finding myself and glad of it.. Hope I keep going this way until I am 100. Here was my answer to that query and it was a legitimate question: The question made me crystallize, where I am right now:
What I do? as a free spirit share the vast acquisition of knowledge that I have gathered from 40 years of research in cultural anthropology. I apply it wherever there is a forum that can benefit from my teachings..always open to new challenges..I am 60 and I feel tremendously "able"..this is an example: of what I" do?" right now I am an Obama volunteer..cannot begin to tell you what incredible people I have met..one of those is a Haitian lady in New York..we started "networking" result: she is running for council woman and asked me to be her Campaign Manager. I am excited!!!! and fired up!! will tell you more as we "connect." I don't work anymore and don't want to..not for someone else..unless it's in politics or my field ..I look wonderful. feel wonderful and am wonderful ..I have a can do attitude..and I have already been to lots and lots of places in my life..physically, spiritually, professionally ,financially and emotionally!! Love my new me..and the only friends my age are my best girlfriends from elementary school.(6) of them...my new friends are younger because I have that zest for life and I don't believe in boxing myself into an "age " group!
Yet I carry traditions, and history..I try to enjoin and bridge the new tech world of push button ease and the old world of philosophy and hard work.
My age is reflective of the "stripes" I have earned as I've made my way, not of an attitude or thinking. I realize a lot of young people see us as done. Yes that's right done!
I have 5 young adult children, and one who is rapidly catching up to me!!..and I have to remind them..that the only barrier between "we" and them" is the intellectual capacity to grasp new paradigms, social thinking and technology..but I have an advantage..from Hip Hop to I Pods..I know when a rapper is "sampling" an old "skool "song..that my brood thinks it all began "in their day" !
I know about turntables and , 45's and 8 tracks..and I also know if you don't have a "backup" you will lose all your data on your virtual reality world-!!-then what? Google may want to chronicle all the books in the world..but a hacker can destroy that in one hour. So yes to a brick and mortal world!! (for now.)
That's why I am loving this site..it makes me think about things ...as we interact with one another. Be Blessed , purposeful and make money!!
